These photos are what is left of the old covered bridge that was on Cross Creek on the old route 22. Charles Maxwell had built a saw & grist mill on the creek just above the bridge. Charles received a land patent [Section No. 35, Township No. 6, in Range N0.2] for a section of land in Jefferson County in 1806. He also built a two story brick home the first in the township. In 2004 the stone foundation in the photos were still standing, later in 2005 the flooding in Jeff Co. washed the entire structure away. Photo of the bridge is dated 1925. Copy of Land Patent of Sept. 3rd. 1806 signed by Pres. Thomas Jefferson & James Madison Secretary of State. Land Section No. 35, Township No. 6, in Range N0.2 to Alexander Work & Charley Maxwell, asignees of Nathan McGrew. Charles later in the year bought Alexander Work's share.
