Nash died at his residence, No. 629 Market St., Friday morning at 2 o'clockm if dropsy and inflammation of the kidneys. Three weeks ago he was on the street apparently in as good health as usual. Friday his spirit returned to God who gave it. Mr. Nash was born in the city of Baltimore, Md., April 22d, 1809. He came to Steubenville in 1831, and was married in 1832 to Miss Sabria Bickerstaff, who survives him. The same year he went into the grocery business in Wheeling, W. Va., and continued in it up to 1838, when he returned to Steubenville and opened a store in the building on the corner of the alley and Market street, opposite the Mears' building, and now occupied by Robert Banks. In 1840 he bought the property on the corner of Sixth and Market streets, being a two-story frame building with store room and dwelling. Here he continued his business, up to the night of July 3d, 1855, when the building and most of its contents, were destroyed by fire. Mr. Nash being an energetic business man, immediately contracted for and had erected within three months the present building, which is now owned and occupied by Wm. Mandel. In 1863 Mr. Nash retired from business and sold the building alluded to above, and also the stock, to Mr. Mandel. In various local and other energetic enterprises Mr. Nash was generally foremost in giving his aid and encouragement. He was a stockholder in the S. & I. R. R., in the C. & P. R. R., Jefferson Insurance Co., B. & L. Association, Gas. Co., also in the Jefferson Branch Bank during its existence, and since in the Jefferson National Bank, being a Director of the same since 1857. He connected himself with the Methodist Episcopal Church in the city of Baltimore in 1833, afterward joining Hamline Church, this city, by certificate, which Church he, with some others, were instrumental in building. He leaves a wife and an only brother to mourn his death.

The funeral of Wm. D. Nash took place from his late residence, 629 Market street, Sunday afternoon and was largely attended by friends of the family. The services were performed by Rev. I. A. Pearce, of Hamline CHurch, assisted by the choir. Pall bearers: David Johnson, Johnson Mooney, J. H. Lindsay, John Bracken, A. H. Battin and Wm. B. Lindsay.
