MRS. MARGARET J. JOHNSON, wife of the late David Johnson, entered into eternal rest at her home, corner of Fourth and Clinton streets, on Friday morning, April 12th, 1889, aged 71 years. Her death came quietly and peacefully to her, but with a terrible shock to her bereaved family. She had been very ill several weeks ago, but was convalescent and able to again assume her home and church duties, and was apparently in better health than before her illness. She retired as usual the evening before, after entertaining friends and relatives, and remarked that she felt unusually well. In the morning, when her daughter called to her, she seemed to be peacefully sleeping, but upon a closer look she was appalled to find that her mother's spirit had passed into eternity. Mrs. Johnson removed from the home farm with her husband in 1875 to their residence on the corner of FOurth and Clinton streets, where she has since made her home, and during her sourjourn in the city won many friends by her genial disposition and beautiful christian character. She was the daughter of the late James Rex, one of the prominent pioneers of this county, and was married to David Johnson in 1841, who passed to the spirit world six years ago in the same sudden peaceful manner. Four children, grown to manhood and womanhood, are left to mourn the loss of this devoted mother, companion and friend. They are Dr. John J. Johnson, of Detroit; Mrs. D. M. Welday, of Richmond; Walter O., of the Steubenville national bank, and Miss Alice at home. Burial services were held from her late home, on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, Rev. Dr. Ledyard officiating in an impressive manner. The Ohio Press; Steubenville, Friday, April 19, 1889 Return to the Obituary Index
