JOHN HARTER, father of Wm. Harter, of this city, died very suddenly last Friday, March 23d, at his residence in Washington, Pa. The Reporter says he had been quite ill for some time, but had somewhat improved. While seated in his chair he occupied his time by cutting splints for lighters with his knife; on rising from his chair to place them on the mantle, he was stricken and sunk to the floor a corpse. He was in his eighty-third year. Mr. Harter was a remarkable man in many respects. In 1817 he removed to the residence where he died, occupying it for sixty successive years. From the time he became a voter he never missed an election until the last in February. Then he could have been taken, but as he was unable to walk he declined to go.
