JOSEPH BRITTLE, entered into rest at the Ohio Valley hospital at 5:15 Thursday evening from internal injuries received Tuesday evening in the La Belle mine. Mr. Brittle was born in North Staffordshire, England, December 15, 1857. He came to America in 1881 and located at Wellsville, O., where he met and married Miss Selina Harrison in 1883. She was also a native of England. He had been a resident of Steubenville for 23 years. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Brittle, both deceased. Mr. Brittle was of quiet disposition and was highly esteemed by all his fellow men. He always had a good word for everybody. His death came as a sudden shock to his family and friends who had faith in his recovery. He was taken to the grief stricken home at the west end of Sinclair Avenue Friday morning. The family is prostrated with grief. He was a member of the Knights of Golden Eagles, Lodge No. 54. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Florence Heinicceus, Miss Emma M. Arthurs and Miss Lizzie H. at home. Also three brothers; Samuel of this city, Richard of Ferrel, Pa., and David of Los Angeles, Cal. Also one nephew Thomas Goodman of Pittsburgh, Pa., and five grand children who were his pride and joy. We shall meet but we shall miss him, there will be one vacant chair. We shall linger to caress him as we breathe our evening prayer. The Steubenville Weekly Gazette, Thursday, August 17, 1916 Return to the Obituary Index
