JAMES BARCUS, died suddenly at the home of his son-in-law, James Simpson, one mile east of Richmond, at 11 o'clock this morning, aged 81 years. He was ill only two hours before his death, which is thought to have been due to heart failure. Deceased was the oldest resident of that part of the county, and was a man who was honored and respected by all who knew him. He was born in Steubenville March 17, 1818, in a house standing on the southwest corner of Fifth and Market street and was a schoolmate of Edwin M. Stanton, Daniel M. Collier and other of the citizens who became noted in public affairs. When about twelve years of age he moved to a farm near Richmond where he has since resided. Four children survive to mourn his loss. They are James, of Brilliant; Hamilton, of Kansas; Mrs. James Simpson and Mrs. Rev. Isaiah Winters, of New Philadelphia. The funeral will take place Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Interment in the U. P. cemetery at Richmond.
