George B. Sunderland, one of Steubenville's oldest citizens died Thursday morning, April 9, 1914, at the home oh his daughter, Mrs John R. Kline, 133 McDowell Aveaue, LaBelle View. Mr. Sunderland was born on South Fifth street this city, January 30, 1829, being at the time of his death in the eighty-sixth year of his age. He spent all of his long life in Steubenville, with the execption of eleven years in Pittsburg, and one year at Bloomfield Station, Ohio. Thirty years of his life he spent in the employ of the firm of D. McConville & Sons having retired from active life when the firm discontinued business about twenty four years ago, during which time he had enjoyed a very pleasant evening time of life having been blessed with very good health until about a year ago, when his partner in life for over fifty seven years, was taken from him by the hand of death. Since that time he had falled in health untill he followed her to the better world. Mr. Sunderland joined Jefferson Lodge No. 6, I.O.O.F. of Steubenville, sixty-three years ago Wednesday night, and Nimrod Encampment later in the same year, having been a member of both societies coninuously ever since. He joined the First M. E. Churchin 1841, and was a member of that church at the time of his death. In his earlier life he was a very active member and worker in both church and Sunday school, and was given much to acts of mercy and charity. He leaves to mourn his loss four children, Mrs John W. Ferguson, of Dennison, Oh.; Mrs John R. Kline of this city; T. C. of Panama, and George E. of Pittsburg. Also thirteen grandchilden and seventeen great grandchildren.
